Bike Century!
From the organizers:
For obvious reasons Copenhagenize was unable to sponsor the first Bike Century - one of the most successful events of any kind in human history.
Launched in the 1880's it was scheduled to run until 1999. Unfortunately, the rise of the automobile rained on the parade and the event petered out all over the world in the 1950's, despite a fantastic start over the first 60-70 years. There was a brief revival in the early 1970's but people just didn't seem to be involved in the event anymore.
Now we're launching the second Bike Century which encompasses a family of events including Bike to Work Century / Bike to the Cinema Century / Bike to the Supermarket Century / Bike to the local Café Century / Bike to School Century etc, etc, etc.
We're looking forward to seeing millions of people signing up for this event from all over the world. But hurry! You have to sign up and pledge to ride a bicycle BEFORE December 31st, 2099!
All participants will get a free extra seven years of life plus fewer illnesses! At no extra cost!
You can pledge your participation by joining the Bike Century Facebook Group.
Feel free to use the above graphic to show that you're signed up for Bike Century on your blog or website.
Have a lovely bicycle-riding century! All you need is a bicycle.Spread the word!! Join today!

Ride Your Own Way
On Monday, I attended the unveiling of the Midtown Business Association's Bike Share Program. It was held at the Priority Parking lot at 2814 J St.
From the Midtown Bike Share Facebook page:
Below is a brief explanation on how the system works by Kane Dutt of Curb System.
It was a well attended event: Council Member Steve Cohn, Ed Cox - Bike/Ped Coordinator for the City of Sacramento, Tricia Hedahl - SABA Executive Director, Aaron Zeff - CEO of Priority Ventures, Rob Kerth - MBA Executive Director among many others.
Here is the rest of the photographic story in all is glory:
From the Midtown Bike Share Facebook page:
The Midtown Bike Share program is a new transit option in the Midtown Sacramento District. This automated system allows users to rent bicycles from kiosks and pay per hour or per day. This system is a healthier, cleaner and more sustainable urban mobility option throughout Midtown and the Central City
Midtown Bike Share will begin with a pilot program in May 2011. The pilot program will include two bike rental kiosks/vaults and 12 bikes, and will last approximately six months. If the pilot program is a success additional kiosks/vaults will be placed throughout Midtown and the Central City. The kiosks are located at the Priority Parking lot on 28th & St. and 16th & I St. They hold 12 Bianchi bikes, that were donated by Bianchi via IkonCycles.

Cycle Chic Sundays Sacramento! does the Farmer's Market
It's been a crazy few weeks. And although is 4th Sunday, we can't let May go, without getting together and Cycle Chic-ing around town. ;)
We do love a farmers market at Cycle Chic and we're especially happy to have an awesome one here in our city.
We'll be meeting for Coffee at Temple Coffee and Tea - 2829 S St. - for some fueling around 10 and them promptly head over to the market. You can meet us for coffee or meet us at the market - very casual. It's on rain or shine and we'll ride unless it's bucketing down (entirely likely given this week's weather) - rsvp and leave a message on the Facebook page if you're coming/
Check for rain update in the morning if it looks wet!
Market Info here

My Street Photography on display
Wondering what to do for Second Saturday this weekend? Head over to the University Art Center - 2601 J Street in Midtown Sacramento. During the month of May they are featuring some of my photography from this blog. The exhibit is also part of the Art Walk during the Second Saturday event.
I love UA! Every month they feature a different artist in their windows. To be asked to participate and to see my work on display, is truly a dream come true. I feel extremely privilege for the opportunity. Thanks UA!!
