New Campaign using Cycle Chic concept

A new campaign call ik kyoto, wants companies to encourage their employees and commuters to make sustainable choices when deciding their mode of transport, is set to be launch on June 1st.

According to cycle chic belgium:

"Cycle chic - the concept, not the blog - is a huge part of this.  Simply because a lot of people who have the opportunity to ride a bike to work, still aren't doing it.  Strange, the bicycle in a city environment is the most effective way to get from point A to B - from home to work.

And you can easily do it whatever outfit you're wearing for the office.  Scared of breaking a sweat?  Then you're riding to fast.  Cycle Chic is about going at an easy pace.  You're still faster than that car next to you, stuck in traffic.  And if not faster, you'll be in a better mood, with a fresh clear mind."

I love the campaign picture.  Kudos to the organizers.

Ghost Bikes

Ghost Bikes are a memorial to those cyclist who are killed or hit on the streets.  They are painted all white and are locked to a street sign in or near the location of the crash site.

They are a reminder that it's important that we share the road and is a statement of support for cyclist right to safe travel.

They have been popping all around the world.  The first one in the US was in 2003, in St. Louis, Missouri.

Sacramento just recently began to take part in these memorials.  Jim Brown, of the California Bike Coalition, says that "ghost bikes represent a maturing of the Sacramento bike community".  I agree with his statement.  Please read the article posted today on Sac Bee about Sacramento's Ghost Bikes.

Today mark a special day to honor all those cyclist who have been killed or injured while riding on public roadways.  "The Ride of Silence" will begin in North America at 7:00 pm and roll across the globe.  Cyclist will take to the roads in a silent procession, riding no faster than 12 mph and remain silent during the ride.

Sacramento's ride of silence will start at the corner of 5th and L.  Cyclist will ride to the latest ghost bike on H and Carlson St.  The group will be placing flowers and a candle.
