Fashion Designers+Fixed Gear Bikes= Love

This is a really cool find. 12 top fashion designers came together to raise fund for an organization call Act-Responsible. Each designer was given a fixed gear bike to customized.  Below is Prada's model.

Cycling Copenhagen: Through North American Eyes

Penny-Farthing around Sac

I have great admiration for the man behind our thriving bicycle culture and budding bicycle infrastructure.  Edward Cox is the city of Sacramento's Bicycle and Pedestrian Coordinator.

Ed can be seen around town on his High Wheeler or Penny-Farthing, a bike with a large front wheel and a much smaller rear wheel that was popular in the 1880's.  They were the first machines to be called "bicycles."

Ed arrives at all of our local events in his beloved Penny-Farthing, including the opening of the California State Fair, where he made his roundtrip from City Hall to Cal Expo via the American River Parkway.

Here is a picture of his Penny-Farthing "parked" in front of City Hall.

Thanks Ed for all your hard work and support!!

Things I love: Yellow Accesories

I am completely in love with the color yellow.  Here are some bicycle accessories I found, that I love! and sac cycle chic approves.

Deluxe shopper bicycle pannier in lemon color.  $ 80.00  I have one in cherry because it matches my ride better.  Nonetheless, I dream of this one.  You can get it at  The Bicycle Muse

For me my best pair of cycling shoes are my Carlos  by Carlos Santana animal print high heels.  But I couldn't help but be intrigue by this pair of shoes designed for biking by the team at Camper shoes and Public Bikes.  Sexy yellow peep-toes pump, Brilliant!  They're on sale for $127.50  Buy them at Public Bikes.

Now I am a girl that can't say no to a hat and when I saw this little cutie I said of Yeah!!!  The Astrid from Pistil.  It's also reversible so you can wear the yellow or the geometric pattern on the other side.  I love it!  $28 and can also be found at Public Bikes.

And this lovely reflective pen that you can wear on your hat.  Comes in three colors and 12 different designs.  I'm in love with the lime one.  $18 and you can get it at Pocampo

Happy Accessorizing! Cycle Chic love to you!

Wrap Your Bike Around Town

Have you ever had your bike stolen?  I can tell you a thing or two about my own experience with the theft of my electra bike "Sofia."

Good news! An industrial design student, Kevin Scott, 21, from De Montfort University in Leicester, Uk, might have found the answer.

Kevin took second place in the Business Design Centre New Designer of the Year Award for his invention.  A collapsible bike!!!  More photos and details at the London Daily Mail article.  "He designed a bike that wraps around a lamp post so it can be locked-up safely - without the need for a lock or chain."

I like the idea of the two-in-one concept.  I wouldn't have to worry about my bike lock or about anybody cutting it...;)

California State Fair Exhibit

If you're going to be in Sacramento between July 14th to August 1st.   One of the most popular destinations of the summer is the State Fair.  This year's theme is "Passport to Adventure."

One of the exhibits speaks right to my cycle chic heart "Pedaling to Adventure."  About the exhibit:
"Step into the amazing world of cycling and view unique vintage bicycles provided by the California Bike Museum and U.S. Bicycling Hall of Fame. Pedal your way through the bicycle's extraordinary culture and history. Then jump into the rip-roaring array of BMX and mountain bikes. Plan your next back-trail adventure with tips from cycling pros or drop in to catch live demonstrations. Become a kid again and remember how much fun riding a bicycle can be."
The Exhibit is at the Expo Center, building 4.  There will be meet and greet with BMX legend Danny Oakley and Hall of Fame inductee Tommy Brackens.  Special talks will be given by local advocates and much more.  I will be talking about 'Cycling as a lifestyle" on July 22nd and 29th around 4 pm.

Hope to see you at the State Fair.  Here is a sneak peek of the exhibit.

Things I love: PoCampo Bags

For the last week or so I was the proud user of a beautiful PoCampo Bag.   They are made in Chicago and designed by the lovely team of Emily and Maria.

The bag I was testing is call the Rack Tote.  As you know here at SacCycleChic is all about fashion.  But when you can combined fashion and functionality, then I'm completely sold.

Some of the features of the Rack Bag:
  • adjustable attachment clips
  • water/fade resistant fabrics
  • adjustable shoulder straps
  • secure snap strap & stow away loops
  • zippered cell phone
  • velcro reflective light clip & stability strap
I ride with my camera and lenses and I found that the Rack Bag was excellent to carry my photography equipment.

The bag style was very fashionable.  When not in my bike rack it was on my shoulders and many friends asked me about my new tote.

I loved it and highly recommended.  There are other styles and they come in a variety of colors and fabrics.
