Cycle Chic Blogger Conference 2011
The Cycle Chic Blogger Conference 2011 will take place in Barcelona. It is a By Invitation Only event, and Sac Cycle Chic has been invited!!
The network of Cycle chic blogs continues to grow and the blogger that started it all, Copenhagen Cycle Chic, together with Barcelona Cycle Chic, thought it high time to meet up and hang out with those Cycle Chic bloggers with whom we share a common philosophy. It's more of a meet up than a conference. More of a social networking party weekend than power points.
On June 17th to 19th the Global Cycle Chic gang members will be descending upon a seductive Spanish city to discuss Bicycle advocacy 2.0 or the art of getting the average citizen out using a bicycle as an everyday tool. I also expect to have a ton of pedal powered fun.
For this Barcelona Blogging adventure we need Sponsors and Trendsetters who wouldn't mind sparing a few trinkets and even a bicycle or two that we can showcase in Barcelona's urban environment for the Global Cycle Chic audience. We'd love to do a, "Trade for Print" partnership for this pedal powered press trip and future opportunities as well.
This would be a great opportunity to have your product showcased within the cargo bike load of Cycle Chic photos and videos that will be taken of how Barcelona and the Cycle Chic gang rocks their Local and Global Cycle Chic.
The Global Cycle Chic Collective is a bunch of creative minds who specialize in Fashion, Photography, Film, Travel, Food, and the love of the bicycle. Through the use of Social Media we have access to every continent and almost every country in the world. Please help spread the Sacramento love in Barcelona.
If you have any bicycle related products that you would like to have featured on Sac Cycle Chic we'd love to hear from you.
If you have any questions on how you can get involved our contact info is below.

The Original Street Photographer: Bill Cunnigham
Sacramento is buzzing with the premiere of the documentary Bill Cunningham New York on April 22 at the Crest Theater. Bill has been capturing New York Streets Style since 1978 on his bicycle. Does that remind you of someone you know?? hint: me?
The Event benefits the Verge Center for the Arts and it will include a trunk show - in the lobby. After the show there will be a panel discussion with local fashion bloggers RQ Bella and Kerry Dolan of Sac Street Style, Kari Shipman of Juniper James and yours truly. More details or to RSVP visit the Facebook Event Page
I am so excited about this event!

A Sacramentan View of Amsterdam Cycle Life
Hello Sac Cycle Chic readers! Jeanelle here from Glocal Girl. I'm a native Sacramentan gal, born and raised in Elk Grove. I'm so happy Sac Cycle Chic asked me to share a newfound joy with you: transport by bicycle.
Two years ago I moved to Barcelona to pursue and International MBA degree which opened my eyes to the many cultural, culinary and customary differences from my safe haven hometown and the Southern European way of life. Following graduation, instead of returning to Northern California love brought me to Amsterdam, the Netherlands where I now reside with my Dutch boyfriend. While I'm still adjusting to life as an expat, living in Amsterdam has changed my perspective on a whole other cultural practice: bicycling as a major form of transportation.
Known as the bike capital of the world, reportedly 40% of all traffic movement in Amsterdam are via bicycle. But having become an official resident of the city less than 6 months ago, I am convinced that it's more. With the friendly bike lanes snaking every crevice of the city and never-ending clumps of rusted bikes waiting patiently outside of grocery stores, bakeries, coffee shops and offices it seems as if to be Dutch is to be a natural born bicyclist. Rush hour is brought to a whole other lever with people of all ages' hand signaling and strategically maneuvering their way through the busy streets to arrive to their morning destination.
Coming from Sacramento, this was a huge cultural shock for me. Bicyclist sharing the flow of traffic? No helmets? Men peddling in suits en route to work and women in platform heels? But it's healthier, more active lifestyle that I've grown to embrace full-heartedly. Not only is it fun, but there's nothing more refreshing than enjoying a long, full dinner with friends and cycling home in the brisk evening air. Talk about burning off those appetizer calories!
Although there are MANY American concepts that I greatly miss, such as customer service and Costco wholesale, returning to driving a car instead of a fiets is something that I am going to dread when the day comes in which I move back to the States. Imagine how much happier our bodies would be if we were to trade all that stale car time to bicycling outdoors?
Try making little changes in your every day life: Instead of driving to the dry cleaners try taking a bicycle...with a cute wicker basket of course. Propose a family bike ride for evening ice cream instead of the car. Little adjustments add up and spread the word around the neighborhood. If we all jump on the "bicycle-train" it's bound to take notice. Let's make cycling Sacramento chic!

Monster Cruiser
These pictures are from my Archives. I took them back in November 2010 and I completely forgot about them - until today when I saw the bike again and ask the owner about it.
Larry Robinson, the Volunteer Coordinator for the Sacramento Area Bicycle Advocates, and the proud owner of this 1997 Coker Monster Cruiser. Why a Monster Cruiser, I asked? Well they're fun to ride, said Robinson. And I sight to be seen!

Seeing Yellow
As you all know I LOVE Yellow!
I had a lovely sighting today; adorable Skylar Mundy - blogger at Let It Reign - was out and about in her beautiful vintage bicycle and clad with, a to die for, yellow dress.
Beautiful day in Sacramento to cheerfully ride around town.
