Rachael Lankford is a very active and passionate community supporter in the Sacramento region. She is the voice behind Sacramento365 - an extremely comprehensive, year-round online source for Sacramento events.
Ms Lankford is admittedly a grid kid - says she rarely makes it out of downtown/midtown. You can attend any event in this region and you will find her contributing in some capacity. She also graced Vélo & Vintage Fashion Show with her beauty, as one of the models.
Sac Cycle Chic: Tell me about your bike?
Rachael Lankford: I have a K2 hybrid. I've had it for about 7 years but only really started using it when I moved to midtown 5 years ago. I love that it has multiple gears but still looks kind of like a cruiser. I find that it's a little heavy but overall it works well in the city. I'm looking forward to fixing it up with all the appropriate lights, adding a removable basket and fenders to make it even more efficient!
SSC: What is cycling to you? What would you tell others to encourage them to cycle?
RL: I love it. I like to cycle both for pleasure and exercise. It's a diverse vehicle and an active way to get around town, get outside, familiarize yourself with your community, spend time with friends and enjoy the great Sacramento weather.
SSC: What do you think of Sacramento's bicycle culture?
RL: Sacramento's bicycle community has rapidly gained momentum over the past few years. There are quite a few local advocates and new businesses that have helped raise awareness and acceptance of cycling as transportation. We have a way to go to make Sacramento a truly bike-friendly city, but we are well on our way. Bike racks have been popping up like weeds and more bike lanes have been added to the streets, however, a lack of knowledge of road etiquette (with both drivers and cyclist) still causes some safety issues.

Look at that big ole hat! :D
It helps on a rainy day...
Thanks Lorena for picking me to profile. It's nice when someone recognizes your efforts! I am happy to help how & whenever I can to advocate and promote our cycling community here in Sacramento.
Cheers!
You're most certainly welcome. Keep the good work!
I enjoyed reading about Rachael and the website she developed. It's great for keeping up with what's going on.
I'm originally from Sacramento (Elk Grove) and am now living/working in Amsterdam.. which I think is truly the bicycling capital of the world. There are more bikes than people and it's such a healthy way of life I love it. I'm happy to see this touching my hometown in a small way... and hope to see more!
@Glocal Girl, Thanks for reading SSC to keep in contact with home. Sacramento is truly emerging as a bicycle capital and we're happy to make you smile! ;)
